Zamioculcas Zamiifolia
The ZZ is a beautiful indoor plant that is already glossy, has larger, striking leaves with a darker, deep green color and is very easy to take care of, storing it's own water for long periods of time, which makes it perfect for those who cannot devote a lot of time to plant care.
Belonging to the Areceae family, this tropical African native will eventually flower when it matures, a lovely spadix type, usually white, small bright yellow to brown or bronze in color, and they usually appear almost hidden among the base of the plant from mid-summer to early fall.
Big distribution of these began in 1996; it's is sometimes known as the “eternity” plant, and in some Chinese circles they are considered good luck because of their ability to survive. They have a root system that includes rhizomes (similar to potatoes) that store water for long periods of time. Though officially tropical, they have been known to grow in savannas, on forest floors and over stony ground.
They need no gloss treatment to maintain what glass comes to them naturally, and will maintain their deep green color even when under-cared for. A great plant to have around just because, or to bring something unique to an indoor landscape.
